Monthly Faves: January

It's that time again - monthly favorites time! Unfortunately, I am a little late with this post.

This month's favorites list is pretty short. I attribute that to the fact I spent the majority of January ill (first chicken pox, then a cold, then bronchitis) and did not sport much makeup most of the time. When I did wear makeup in January, I didn't wear much. The products I used were very simple, matte (in most cases) and natural looking. So, here's the rundown:

LUSH Lip Scrub in Bon Bon - This is a product that came in the Stardust Gift Box, one of my Boxing Day LUSH purchases. Before buying this product, I had never used a lip scrub before. If I wanted to slough of dry skin from my lips, I used a moist wash cloth and that worked fine for me. The scrub is interesting - it's very hard not to lick off your lips immediately following application - it smells and tastes exactly like icing. I apply a thin layer of vaseline to my lips and then use the scrub on top - it helps the scrub stick to my lips and do its job. It's a dangerous product to have around when you are craving sugar - it is totally plausible that someone could eat the whole little container!

Cover Girl NatureLuxe Foundation in Alabaster - I wrote a review about this particular foundation weeks ago, and my opinion of it has not changed. I love using this liquid foundation. I still have not found an ideal 'high end' brand foundation for my skin type and shade, so I've been sticking to drugstore formulations. I am almost through my first tube of NatureLuxe, and have a second on standby for when it runs out. This foundation is my go-to foundation at the moment!

MAC Pro Eye Shadow Quad containing: Malt, Haux, Bisque and Corduroy - This is a quad I put together myself, using some neglected eyeshadow shades. They look completely different when they're loaded in their x 15 Pro Palettes; when you put the four shades together, they look phenomenal! All of the shades are matte, and help to create a very polished, professional, neutral 'day' look.

NARS Cream Eye Shadow Duo in Unconditional Love - This is the only NARS Cream Eye Shadow Duo I own - partly because I am not really fond of the other color combinations available, and also partly because I have wanted this duo for years! One side of the duo is a very pretty light peach shimmer shade, and the other is a pale matte light blue. Both shades work remarkably well as bases; I use the blue for blue-toned colors, and the peach for just about everything else. They also look wonderful on their own, and are a cream-to-powder formulation.

Smith's Rosebud Salve - This has been a staple in my makeup bag for years. It is one of the first things I bought when I started shopping at Sephora, because there was so much hype about it. Really, it's just pink-tinted vaseline with a rose scent. I've gone through three tins. I used this religiously while I was sick and had dry lips. I also use it every night before I go to bed, and every morning when I am putting on my makeup to prep my lips for lipstick or gloss.

What are your monthly favorites?

If you have any questions about the products I mentioned here, just let me know!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
