REVIEW: Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Astringent

Lately my skin has been acting up. I don't know if it's age, hormones, a change in my diet, or something else - but it's prompted me to switch up my skin care regimen. I've tried to stop using products with lots of chemicals in them and have made the move towards more 'gentle' and natural products. That brings me to the product I am reviewing for you today.

Product Brand and Name, Price (CDN), Where Purchased

Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Astringent, $6.28 CDN for a 473 mL bottle at Wal-Mart

Reason for Purchase

I was looking for skin care options that were natural - this one says it's 100% natural.

Notable Features

There's a big 100% at the bottom of the bottle that lets you know this product is 100% natural. The front of the bottle has this information: Deep cleans without overdrying.

If you flip the bottle around and take a peek at the back label, it goes on to say: Our unique 100% natural formula combines extracts of the witch hazel plant to thoroughly cleanse and condition your skin without disturbing its natural moisture balance.

Packaging

I didn't notice until just a few minutes ago when I took the picture, but there's a little blue text box in the upper left corner of the front label that says 'New Look'; I'm not sure what it use to look like, but the product is currently in a squirt bottle with a bright yellow cap. The back label has yellow on the adhesive, so it makes the contents of the bottle look yellow - the product is actually clear.

Experience Using Product

I have sensitive skin, so when I try out a new product I expect to have some kind of reaction. I didn't with this one!

I shower at night, so when I wake up in the morning there is really no point in my washing my face again, since I didn't really get it dirty overnight. I use this astringent to remove any residue of my night cream in the morning and then I apply my day moisturizer.

Unlike most astringents and toners, this product is free of alcohol. So, you don't get that weird tingly/cold feeling when you apply the product to your face. The product actually goes on more like an oil, without the nasty residue. You don't need much for a full face application - I squirt just enough so that a wet spot the size of a nickel is on my cotton pad.

The one downside I have identified with this product is smell. It's not good. It's not a turn-your-stomach and hurl kind of smell, but it's not really appealing either. I imagine I'll get use to the scent the more I use the product.

Would I Re-Purchase, Recommend, or Reject

One thing I love about this product is value the for money. You get lots of product for a not-so-bad price. I could have bought a bottle of Neutrogena toner that contained half the amount product and was three dollars more expensive!

I would recommend this product to someone who wants to try out an all natural product, and isn't too picky about scent.

I will definitely re-purchase this product.
