Product Brand and Name, Price (CDN), Where Purchased
New York Color (NYC) 16 Hour Smooch Proof Lip Stain in Shades 497 Rock on Ruby and 495 Endless Spice, $4.77 CDN each @ Wal-Mart
Reason for Purchase
I have yet to find a lip stain that I like. This one is cheap and I thought I would try it.
Notable Features
This particular stain boasts that it will last up to 16 hours.
Packaging
The stain is basically a felt tipped marker. The marker tip has a fine point - much finer than the ones on the Cover Girl and Revlon pens.
The marker is the same shade as the stain - remarkably so.
Experience Using Product
Lordy Lordy and Hallelujah - I found a lip stain that I like!
I am very happy with how fine-point this stain’s applicator is. It makes lining your lips before you fill them very easy!
Here’s what the applicator looks like:
And here is a swatch of both colors:
Left: Endless Spice; Right: Rock on Ruby
This stain did not bleed when applied to dry lips. It only bled when exposed to water or gloss. Additionally, the stain dries very quickly.
Here is what each of the stains I have looks like when applied to lips, no product on top:
Shade 497 Rock on Ruby
Shade 495 Endless Spice
The stain has a scent. It’s mildly fruity - very pleasant.
I apply an NYC Extreme Lip Glider Lip Gloss in a complimentary shade over the stain once it dries, to give it that extra ‘pop’.
Here is what each stain looks like with gloss over top:
Shade 495 Endless Spice with NYC Extreme Lip Glider Lip Gloss in Shade 522U Carnegie Melon over top
Shade 497 Rock on Ruby with NYC Extreme Lip Glider Lip Gloss in Shade 526U Chinatown Cherry over top
I do not necessarily believe the stain has true full-force 16 hour staying power, if you’re someone who washes her face/showers/brushes her teeth regularly, lol! The stain does linger on your lips a little - but not at its full pigmentation power.
I really like the look of Rock on Ruby with the Chinatown Cherry gloss overtop - it's the perfect red lip!
Endless Spice makes for a nice neutral lip color that is pretty hard to over-do.
Would I Re-Purchase, Recommend, or Reject
I am quite happy with this stain. I will certainly pick up a few more colors - at $5 a pop, I am getting two for the price of one Revlon stain!
I would recommend you at least try this stain if you haven’t found another brand that you like.
