REVIEW: MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow in Clarity

Product Brand and Name, Price (CDN), Where Purchased

MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow in Clarity, $ 24.00 CDN @ MAC.ca

Reason for Purchase

I was extremely excited about the Semi Precious collection and, consequently, ended up buying most of it.

Notable Features

This eye shadow is limited edition, released as part of the Semi Precious collection in July of 2011.

Not all mineralize eye shadows have the same amount of colored veining as others; and very rarely does what you get actually look like the display picture on the MAC website. You may have to browse what’s available at your MAC counter for the shade you want, to find one that you will be happy with!

Packaging

This eye shadow comes in the standard black MAC compact.

The eye shadow will not fit into a Pro Palette.

Experience Using Product

There were twelve eye shadows launched with this collection, and of the twelve this is probably one of the more brightly colored, gemstone looking of the bunch.

I fell in love with this eye shadow the moment that I saw a picture of it online. I am attracted to bright colors and rainbow, so this eye shadow was an instant ‘I want’ for me.

This eye shadow is made of veining of light pink, off-white green, gold and black; my shadow also has some light blue and orange in it.

This shadow works best when applied wet, or over top of a base of some kind (cream eye shadow, a Paint Pot, eye liner, etc.). When worn alone, it is more muted and the colors don’t stand out as much.

Here are some swatches of the shadow:

L to R: dry, no base; on Blackground Paint Pot; on Dangerous Cuvée Paint Pot, and on Genuine Treasure Paint Pot.

I use this eye shadow as an all-over color, highlight, and to add some shimmer to other eye makeup looks. Typically I apply it dry; I only put it over Paint Pots when I want a more dramatic look. When I blend all of the veining in this eye shadow, I’m left with a shimmery grey multi-tonal color with multicolor shimmer (shimmers the color of all of the veining). The shame about blending the veining together is that it ruins the look of the shadow in the pan.

I enjoy using this eye shadow with MAC’s Vex - they pair very nicely. It also looks great when used with MAC’s Greensmoke, and NARS Pearl Beach cream eye shadow.

This eye shadow does have a bit of minor fallout - just some tiny shimmer particles that can easily be cleaned up with a tissue.

Would I Re-Purchase, Recommend, or Reject

I think this is a very unique eye shadow and I love it to bits. I am happy to have it as part of my collection. I would recommend this eye shadow to someone who is a MAC collector or is a fan of grey eye shadow (like me!). I bought two of these eye shadows so that I will have a back-up for one my current pot of it runs out.

Unfortunately, you cannot get this eye shadow from the your local MAC counter and online anymore. It was Limited Edition, and it’s sold out!
