Urban Decay Afterglow Cheek Tint
Happy Sunday, everyone!
I'm having mixed feelings about something I got recently from Sephora. The good thing is that it was technically free - one of the 100 point perks I got a choice in redeeming as part of their V.I.B program. I got a deluxe sample of Urban Decay Afterglow Glide-on Cheek Tint in the shade Quickie.
I had been going back and forth about buying this product, so I was glad to get a chance to test it out before deciding to purchase.
Now that I've had an opportunity to play with it, I'm not sure I would buy it.
Here is what the color looks like:
It's very creamy and does actually 'glide on'. To apply it, I just swiped my finger on the color and then dotted it on the apples of my cheek, blending it out with my fingers. Here's a swatch in natural light:
This blush is very neon. It's actually more neon than Desire, by NARS (which I already own). Both products are the same kind of neon pink color - Urban Decay just amped up the neon a bit more in theirs. Here's a side-by-side shot of the blushes:
My first thought when applying this blush was 'wow, this looks fake!'. I just saw that neon pink Barbie-esque shade sitting on my skin, and it did not look natural. Desire by NARS does a better job of blending and looking natural.
I'm going to give this blush a few more tries before I make my final like it or loathe it decision; I'll post a full review then, too.

REVIEW: Urban Decay Brow Box

Reason for Purchase
I was looking for something to help me make my brows look more defined without making them scary dark.
Notable Features
In this kit, you get two powder shades, a tray of brow wax, teeny tiny tweezers, and a teeny tiny brush.
Packaging
The Urban Decay Brow Box is a tiny purple box of eyebrow products.
When you flip open the lid, you see two trays of brow powder, and a spot where the tweezers and brush sit. In the top of the lid there is also a rather crap-tacular mirror; my mirror is cloudy and can’t be used because it doesn’t reflect anything.
Underneath the top tray is a pop-out drawer containing the brow wax.
You open the drawer by pushing in on it (it pops out from the front of the box).

Experience Using Product
My natural hair color is a light ashy blonde, with natural golden highlighting to it. My eyebrows and eyelashes are naturally dark, but look horrifically over-defined if I use a dark brown product to fill them.
At first, I thought I had bought the wrong shade of product for my brows. Then I tried using it, and I saw that I really had picked the best shade for me.
In this shade of the kit, there is a dark ash blonde colored brow powder, and a light blonde-brown colored brow powder. Here’s what they look like in the pan, and swatched:
I do not use the little brush that comes in the kit to apply the powder; I use a full-size angled eyebrow brush. If/when I use the brow wax, I just apply it with my fingers.
The brow powder is well pigmented and doesn’t make your eyebrows look super powdery - a big plus! The wax is not super hard or super gloopy/gloppy - it’s very creamy for wax.
I am curious about the tweezers. I haven’t them yet! (because I haven’t had to tweeze my brows recently) They would make the cutest little travel tweezers if they work well!
Would I Re-Purchase, Recommend, or Reject
OK - first of all, I have to say something about the shade name of this product - Honey Pot. Where I come from, a Honey Pot is a slang nickname for an outhouse; Chamber Pots also use to be referred to as Honey Pots.
With all of that aside, I really like this product. Since I’m growing out some hair dye right now, I mostly use the darker shade of brow powder in this kit. However, once my hair is completely back to my natural color, I can see myself using a mix of the dark and light shades in my brows.
The brow wax is not something I use everyday - just when I’ve done makeup that I really want to be more long-lasting. For example, I used it this past weekend when I was out shopping for a full day.
I would definitely recommend this to you if you’re looking for a good brow kit; I haven’t tried an Anastasia kit, so I can’t compare this kit to that one. When this kit runs out, I would definitely re-purchase it!

TAG: Summer Eye Color Picks
Doing this part of the Summer Products Tag was pretty darn easy. Probably because over the summer, I get pretty lazy with my makeup and don’t put so much effort into putting it on - why spend a ton of time on it when it’s probably going to melt off in the heat?
Anyhoodles, I have made a nice little list of my Summer Eye Products that I’ve been wearing a lot lately, and plan on continuing to use over the rest of the summer.
Here we go:
- NARS Eye Shadow Duo in Key Largo
- NARS Eye Shadow Duo in Cordura
- Urban Decay Naked Palette
- CARGO Color Palette in Bermuda
- MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Duo in Noble Touch
So, that’s a grand total of five products, but each actually contains more than one eye shadow...in truth, there’s a whopping 22 eye shadows in this selection. I think maybe I went a bit over-board? So much for only picking a few products, huh! Ha ha!
As far as the Naked Palette goes, I’m relying on most of the shades on the far left to middle of the palette, to help create a lightly bronzed look on my eyes. I’ve been staying away from the darker and more black or grey based shades (unless I’m having a crappy day - then I slap on some Creep).
Both NARS eye shadow duos are bronze-brown and work quite well together. I use the peach in Key Largo as my all over lid color, and the bronze in that duo as my crease color. From Cordura, I use the lighter brown color as my outer-corner shade, and the dark brown as my liner. This is what I'm wearing today! You can read more about Key Largo by clicking here.
The CARGO Color Palette in Bermuda is an awesome one that I love to death...you can read my review here for all the details!
I use the MAC Mineralize duo in Noble Touch to add a bit more shimmer and shine to looks I create with the other products; the white/pink color is good to use on the brow bone or inner corner as a highlight, and the bronze side adds a nice extra punch of bronze-shimmer on the lid. Urban Decay Feminine Palette
Urban Decay released three Limited Edition palettes this spring. The idea behind the palettes is that they represent personalities: Fun, Dangerous and Feminine.
Like all of the palettes Urban Decay releases, you get a miniature of an Urban Decay Primer Potion, and a 24/7 Eye Liner Pencil.
Here’s some tidbits about each palette:
Fun Palette - Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original, 24/7 Eye Liner Pencil in Oil Slick, Eye Shadows in Woodstock, Baked, Uzi, Sin, Flipside and Psychedelic Sister.
Dangerous Palette - Urban Decay Primer Potion in Greed, 24/7 Eye Liner Pencil in Rockstar, Eye Shadows in Haight, Mildew, Virgin, Oil Slick, Rockstar and Gunmetal.
Feminine Palette - Urban Decay Primer Potion in Eden, 24/7 Eye Liner Pencil in Zero, Eye Shadows in Stray Dog, SWF, Midnight Cowboy, Aquarius, Darkhorse, and Ecstasy.
My favorite of the bunch is the Feminine Palette.
I did a lot of reading about the Feminine Palette and watched a few YouTube videos about it prior to deciding to buy it.
The shades in this palette really are very feminine - they’re soft but colorful. They’re also very neutral - and a lot of the shades are ‘cool’, meaning they’ve got blue bases.
All of the eye shadows in the Feminine Palette are shimmery; there are no matte shades. There are two glitter based shadows and one is more glittery than the other. SWF (acronym for Single White Female) is the shimmery baby pink and it’s got micro glitter in it. Midnight Cowboy (a shadow shade Urban Decay is famous for) is a shimmery off-white with loads of chunky glitter. Both of these shades are workable if you know how to apply them; tapping your brush will get all of the glitter to fall off your before you apply the shadow to your lids (unless the brush is wet). Some people don’t like any glitter in their eye shadow - but then I don’t know why you would buy some of Urban Decay’s eyeshadows; The company is very good about stating which of their shadows have glitter on them. In my opinion, if you know what you’re getting you shouldn’t be complaining.
My favorite Urban Decay eye shadow is Stray Dog, so I love that this palette contains it.
Aquarius is a gorgeous shimmery light aqua - so pretty!
The big surprise to me in this palette was the shade Ecstasy - a bright, crisp purple. In the palette the color appears like it’s going to be super intense and crazy powerful, but it’s actually very sheer. It is a super wearable bright color! I am going to use it a ton!
Last is Darkhorse, a shade that you can’t get in a single - it’s been featured in Urban Decay’s Naked Palette too.
The packaging of this particular product is a little ‘blah’ to me - it’s what has become their standard six-pan cardboard palette, with a slot between the two rows of shadow to hold the eye liner. This palette is a periwinkle purple and it’s got the brand name and product name on the front - the brand name is felted (velvety to the touch) and the palette name is in shiny purple with peacock feather detailing. On the back, there are felted peacock feathers with shiny purple detailing. The inside of the palette has a peacock feather print on the lid and rose patter print on the actual eye shadow palette.

I love monthly favorites - both posting them and reading them!
I don't know what's been up with me over the last few months, but my monthly favorites in entries past have been small. This one is no different!
These are products that have seen a lot of use this month; some I have used over the whole month.
Clinique Almost Makeup in Shade 01 Fair
This foundation has been discontinued by Clinique. This is my last bottle of it. :( I figured I might as well use it up before it expires rather than hanging on to it for special occasions. I still have not landed on a good replacement for this foundation. Clinique Even Better Makeup was close, but not quite perfect! Purchased at Sears
NARS Bronzer in Laguna
I love all three of NARS's Bronzers (I have them all), and Laguna is my second favorite (Irresistiblement is first!). Spring has been quite dreary where I live, so the shimmer in this bronzer has served to brighten my face nicely. Purchased at Sephora.ca
NARS Concealer in Vanilla
I have been using this to brighten the skin under my eyes; I just put three small streaks on under each eye (vertical streaks) and then blend them out with a foundation brush. Purchased at Sephora.ca
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
I have been using this as my eye shadow base all month. I love this primer - more than the original one! It's slightly more pigmented and shimmery than MAC's Bare Study Paint Pot. It came with my Naked Palette - so technically I bought it at Sephora.ca
Calvin Klein CKIN2U (100 mL)
I got a really really really good deal on this eau de toilette. I bought it for $20.00 on sale for Mother's Day. The scent has notes of citrus; it's a very fresh scent that I've been wearing a lot of. It's perfect for summer. Purchased at PharmaPlus
Essie Nail Polish in Shade 383 Innocent
I have found my 'perfect pink' nail polish. I am totally in love with this shade. In the bottle, the polish has a blueish-pink shimmer to it - which disappears on your nails. However, depending on what you are wearing, the shade can pick up other notes of color, switching between being more of a coral pink to a blue based pink. I love it! Purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in Shade 200 Latino
Yet another blue-based-pink shade of product (I seem to be using a lot of them lately!). I love this lipstick. I've worn it most of the month. It's not obnoxiously bright pink, and it's not super muted either. Just pink enough! Purchased at PharmaPlus

I've also been picking up some items to include in my 1st Annual Blog Birthday Giveaway (full details to be announced July 1st!); I have picked up some NARS items, Essie, and an NYC item or two. The prize pack is going to be AWESOME! I'm totally stoked to get June over with and post the details of the giveaway!
I am planning a relatively quiet weekend. I have some homework to do, and a book I want to finish reading. I also have to get my butt into gear and do some more posts - I have lots I want to share with you all!

Pretty & Fun - The Vegan Palette
I only own two palettes from Urban Decay; I recently bought the much coveted Naked Palette, but I've had the Vegan Palette for awhile now.
The concept of the Vegan Palette is that, like Urban Decay's range of products, the shadows inside it are cruelty free, and are 100% vegan.
I was drawn to the palette because of the packaging, really. Its a small cardboard palette covered in hippy-esque color sketches of cute critters. Here's what it looks like:
Then, there's the inside of the palette - which contains 6 eye shadows and one miniature 24/7 eye liner in Zero. There are three colourful shadows in the palette, and three neutrals - so there's a nice balance of every day shades and fun shades.
The top row of the palette contains Minx, Urb, and Gunmetal; the bottom row has Twice Baked, Smog, and Half Baked.
Here are swatches of each shade, in the order they appear in the palette:
Believe it or not, this palette was actually released at the same time the Naked palette was released; only, for whatever reason, the Vegan palette did not become as popular and sell as successfully as the Naked palette.
I have both palettes in my every day makeup kit.

I was thrilled to see a parcel card in my post office box this afternoon - especially when I haven't received any e-mail notification from Sephora to let me know that my order was shipped.
My Naked Palette came today! Along with a few other goodies I decided to buy at the same time (I couldn't help it!).

Monthly Faves: April
May first already! Wow! I swear that just a week ago, we still had snow on the ground where I live (no joke! we did!). It's time for my monthly favorites. Again, this month's offering of products is small.
Lets get started!
Rimmel London Sexy Curves Mascara - I really like this mascara. It does a great job of defining my lashes and doesn't flake off as the day progresses. Could this be my new favorite mascara? We'll have to wait and see! Purchased at Wal-Mart
Maybelline New York Fit Me! Foundation in Shade 135 Creamy Natural - I really thought that I would take the lightest shade in this foundation, shade 110 Ivory. I bought a bottle of it (and the matching pressed powder) and wore it a few times without noticing anything peculiar. Recently, I applied it again and discovered I was really making my skin much paler than it naturally is. So, I ventured out to my local drugstore and bought the correct shade for my skin - which turned out to be the one I am featuring here. This foundation has a built in SPF and doesn't oxidize on me. While my skin doesn't stay matte through the whole day like it does with my Clinique Even Better Makeup, I am not a complete oil slick either. I like that this foundation does not irritate my skin and that it blends very well - putting it on takes no work at all. Purchased at PharmaPlus
Maybelline New York Fit Me! Pressed Powder in Shade 135 Creamy Natural - I dust a bit of this on with a Kabuki brush to set my foundation. It helps to prevent creasing and does a decent job of controlling oil. My beef is the compact it comes in - not a fan of this packaging. Purchased at PharmaPlus
MAC Eye Shadow Quad: Copperplate, Smut, Haux and Jest - These are some of my favorite MAC shadows, which I have been using in their quad combination, or in conjunction with other shadows. I find these shades very versatile and tend to use at least one of them every day. Copperplate makes and awesome brow filler and crease color, Jest is the best highlighter color I have, Haux is my favorite lid color, and Smut is probably my favorite MAC shadow ever. Purchased at MAC.ca
NYC Blushable Créme Stick in 647U South St. Seashell - I am still neglecting my powder blush in favor of cream formulas. NYC makes a great affordable cream blush that I've been using more and more lately. They remind me a lot of NARS Multiples. This particular shade is a warm tawny coral - a wonderful neutral shade that adds a hint of sunshine to my cheeks. Purchased at PharmaPlus
Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original - I am really loving Urban Decay's new packaging for UDPP. It makes it so much easier to control how much you want to use and it's also much more sanitary. I use the teeny tiniest amount of this every day - this tube is going to be around for awhile! While it still isn't as good as the NARS Smudge Proof Eye Shadow Base, it comes a close second - and it's a few dollars cheaper. Purchased from Sephora.ca
Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Powder in Translucent - This powder has been virtually ignored since I reviewed it. Lately though, it's been living in my makeup bag. I use this to add some shimmer to my face on days where I don't want to wear blush or bronzer - I also use it all over my lid before I apply shadow to add some shimmer. It's also great to use on my eyes when I just want my face to look fresh and I don't plan on wearing any other eye makeup aside from mascara. Purchased at PharmaPlus
I also have some 'randoms' I thought I would include. These are things that have also peaked my interest this month.
So I am a HUGE Gleek. I've been watching this a ton over the past month. My favorite character?
That's right, Santana Lopez. Her bitchy one-liners are awesome and I love her singing voice. I'm glad that the writers are giving her (and a lot of the other Glee club members) more story lines and songs this season. I also like Brittany and Artie, Mercedes, Kurt and Coach Beiste!
Another thing that I've been obsessed with is my Kobo e-Reader.
I just got it last week and I've been using it a ton. I am completely converted to e-reading now. It's like I was when I bought my first iPod - I've never bought a CD since! I doubt very much that I'll purchase a hardcopy book ever again...unless there are super special circumstances involved! My e-reader is 'pearlized lilac' - purple! and I have a nice black Roots leather case for it so that I can cart it around in my purse without damaging it.
I am itching to read everyone else's monthly favorites. It's great to see what everyone else is using month to month.

Goodbye New Year's resolution #1 - we had a good run. Almost 4 full months? That's 1/3 of the year. Not bad :)
One beef I have about this is that I did NOT get an e-mail from Sephora telling me that the product was in - even though I added myself to the mailing list. I am sure the list is huge though...just watch, and the e-mail will show up in my inbox once they are sold out again.
Wohoo! I am stoked. This has made my day.
A Naked Update
Ok, so this post is probably not what it sounds like.
I, like a few other beauty bloggers out there, do not yet have the Naked Palette by Urban Decay in my collection. Both times the product has been available, it managed to sell out before I could buy it.
In my frustration to get the palette, I have considered ordering it from E-Bay. I was this close to putting through an order with a seller in the UK before my pragmatism kicked in and I decided it wasn't worth paying 20 extra dollars for. I could wait.
Or so I thought.
I am impatient at the best of times, but waiting for this palette to be available again is making me nuts. I had a dream about it on Saturday! I had a dream that I received an e-mail alert from Sephora letting me know it was available again and then I happily ordered 3 of them. I woke up in the morning in a blind panic, and the first thing I did was check my e-mail! Alas, no message from Sephora telling me the palette was in stock.
I wondered if maybe the Urban Decay website was sold out. When I looked there and found that they had it in stock, I was excited! I could finally get it! Then I read their e-shopping policy and discovered they do not sell/ship internationally at this time. Darn it all! Foiled again!
So, rather than wait for Sephora to contact me about when the product would be in stock next, I contacted them. I expressed frustration in the fact that their store is sold out, yet the company producing the product has it available right now. The response I got back from Sephora was surprising! Unlike the last time the palette sold out and we had to wait 4 months to re-stock it, this time the palette will be available by mid to late April (it only sold out at the beginning of March)! The customer service rep. assured me they would have the palette available again by the end of April and advised me to put myself on the e-mail notification list so that when the palette is back in I get notified (I didn't bother telling her that I was already on the list).
I know there are a few of my followers who are also waiting for the palette to get released again, so I thought it was only fair that I share the information I have about it!

Monthly Faves: August
Since we are now two days into September, I thought it would be a great time to talk to you about my favorite products for the month of August. Keep in mind that I didn't necessarily purchase these products in the month of August (although some of them were!); really, these are products that seemed to be my most-used, favorite things in August.
So, let's get started! This month's roundup of products covers makeup and skin, and one 'random' product.
Bath Therapy by Fragrance Works 3-in-1 Body Wash, Bubble Bath and Shampoo, in Sweet Vanilla - This is probably the most yummy smelling vanilla-scented product ever. It's amazing. It is a very moisturizing, super frothy 3-in-1 product, akin to the Philosophy 3-in-1s. This product is affordable, and you can find it at Wal-Mart and most drugstores. The other great thing about this product is that it comes in a giant 1 Litre (34 Fl. Oz.) bottle. I love this product; when you're feeling down and need some comforting, this vanilla scent will lift your spirits and help you relax and unwind.
Rexall Nasal Strips - This is from PharmaPlus, and it's their version of the 'Breath-Rite Nasal Strip'. I got a cold at the beginning of the month, and these things were awesome at helping me be able to breath. They're not terribly attractive to wear (even when you buy the clear ones like I did) and the glue on them is a pain to wash off of your nose in the morning, but they do exactly what they are suppose to. The next time I get sick, I will be buying another box of these puppies.
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil (4, in trial sizes: Zero - black, 1999 - purple, Flipside -teal, Mildew - green) - These were part of an Urban Decay Beauty Insider 500-point exclusive set that I got awhile back with a Sephora order. I had resisted trying them out until recently. They're great eyeliner pencils! They are formulated to be very creamy, so they are easy to use to create a 'barely there' line, or you can make a very defined, dark line. Plus, they are easy to smudge - but don't move into your crease after an hour like some of the drugstore formulas. My favorite so far is 1999 - I love the plumy purple color!
Bodycology Vanilla Cupcake Body Mist - I've been wearing this as perfume lately. Over the summer months, I tend to wear body sprays instead of perfumes. Perfumes have a knack for creating really strong 'clouds' of scent when it's humid - where body sprays are lighter and more nose-friendly when it gets to be humid. I really like this spray, because it's a fun candy-scent - but it's not going to make you smell like a 4-year-old who just toddled out of the ice-cream parlor covered in their ice-cream.
Neutrogena Ageless Essentials Continuous Hydration Night Cream - I have been on the hunt for a great night cream for awhile now. I really wanted something that had thick formulation that wouldn't be greasy or oily on my skin. This moisturizer does just that. The formulation is thick, so you don't need a lot to cover your face. Best of all, the formula seeps into your skin quickly, and doesn't leave a gross residue on your face. The scent is light and kind of reminds me of a baby powder scent with a dash of something else I can't quite put my finger on - but it's a nice smell!
Essie Nail Polish in Pink Glove Service - This is a very pretty color - it's a light baby pink that is meant to be semi-opaque. It's a very simple color that will look good on anyone. It's a color I turn to when I want to do my nails but don't know what color to put on. It's a work friendly shade, and it's impossible to wear too little or too much.
Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in B400 Silver Plum - I told you I would buy more! I actually own seven of these lipsticks now (including the two I just reviewed). I LOVE these lipsticks. This shade is a standout for me, because it's very unique. This color is a mauve silver, with a very lilac purple undertone. It looks frightening in the tube, but it goes on very sheerly on your lips and creates a nice wash of color.
NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Sugarland - I have been lusting after this eyeshadow duo forever. I've always been attracted to the colors - but for whatever reason, I always put off buying it. Awhile back, I finally bit the bullet and ordered it. This is my favorite eyeshadow duo from NARS. Both shades are shimmery, bright and fun - but not too bright that they can't be used during the day for work-wear. The first shade is a lovely apricot color and the second is a pretty bright lilac purple with shimmer that is the same color as the apricot shade in the duo. I have blue-green eyes, so this duo also does a great job of making my eye-color pop. This duo is part of the NARS permanent line, but I have read elsewhere that it may be getting 'retired' shortly. Has anyone else heard this?
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Siberia - Not to long ago, I posted a blog entry about this foundation, and the struggle I had been having with it. I've been having a much better time using it, and it's been my go-to foundation this month. I do love the formulation, and I will definitely re-purchase. The awesome thing about this product is that you don't need much to cover your face - I only need to use a jelly-bean sized amount. So, unless this foundation goes bad (expires), I won't be needing to re-purchase for quite awhile yet.
NARS Makeup Primer with SPF 20 - I love this primer! I use it in tandem with my Sheer Glow, and it makes foundation application a dream. It's got a light, refreshing citrus scent, and you only need a pea-sized amount to cover your whole face. I put moisturizer on before using this (at least 15 minutes before applying the primer) and it doesn't make my skin greasy. I also don't break out, which is another bonus.

I have blue-green eyes, so this duo also does a great job of making my eye-color pop. This duo is part of the NARS permanent line, but I have read elsewhere that it may be getting 'retired' shortly. Has anyone else heard this?
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Siberia - Not to long ago, I posted a blog entry about this foundation, and the struggle I had been having with it. I've been having a much better time using it, and it's been my go-to foundation this month. I do love the formulation, and I will definitely re-purchase. The awesome thing about this product is that you don't need much to cover your face - I only need to use a jelly-bean sized amount. So, unless this foundation goes bad (expires), I won't be needing to re-purchase for quite awhile yet.
NARS Makeup Primer with SPF 20 - I love this primer! I use it in tandem with my Sheer Glow, and it makes foundation application a dream. It's got a light, refreshing citrus scent, and you only need a pea-sized amount to cover your whole face. I put moisturizer on before using this (at least 15 minutes before applying the primer) and it doesn't make my skin greasy. I also don't break out, which is another bonus.
